Veneers Q & A
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, porcelain shells bonded directly to your teeth, covering up problems like stains, discoloration, chipped teeth, or misshapen teeth.
Veneers help you achieve the smile you are looking for and can be used on any tooth. They look and feel like your natural teeth so that you can easily chew, drink, and speak while enjoying a more beautiful grin.
Am I a candidate for veneers?
While everyone’s smile can benefit from veneers, not everyone is a good candidate. You may not be suitable for veneers if you:
- Grind your teeth
- Have significant gum disease
- Have weak or decayed teeth
- Have a severe overbite or underbite
If the above applies to you, Dr. Perdomo and his staff will recommend other options like dental crowns to improve your smile.
How do dentists place veneers?
You’ll need two appointments to get your veneers in place. At your first appointment, Dr. Perdomo removes a thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth so your veneer fits snugly. A dental technician will take molds of your teeth to ensure your custom-made veneers will fit, and you’ll be able to choose the shade and shape to match.
At your next appointment, Dr. Perdomo bonds your custom veneers to your teeth. Your teeth should feel comfortable and your smile instantly improved.
How do I take care of my veneers?
You need to care for your veneers just as you would your normal teeth. You should:
- Brush twice a day
- Floss at least once a day
- Visit your dentist every six months for regular cleanings
- Quit smoking
- Avoid foods that can stain teeth, like red wine or coffee
Veneers also require you be more mindful of chewing. Too much pressure can cause the veneers to crack. If your veneers do crack or come off, they can be replaced one at a time.
With the right care, your veneers can last up to a decade. At Reliant Dental Group, Dr. Perdomo specializes in cosmetic treatment and porcelain veneers. Your dental work comes with a warranty, so you can feel confident you are receiving reliable, high-quality veneers.
